Freshman Congressman Joe Heck (R-NV) held a Town Hall meeting and was caught on tape telling those in attendance that Social
Security is a “pyramid scheme”. (watch video below)
"The full retirement age is 67 and the lifespan is 80, so when they first conceived Social Security, they didn't think
they were going to be paying benefits for 13-15 years. That's one of the reasons why this pyramid scheme isn't working.”
Then Heck was asked about raising the retirement age, and said that no one has been talking about raising the retirement
age (which is a flat out lie), which enraged the audience even more. Upon which Heck himself talked of a scenario where the
retirement age should be raised.
“The kid who’s 18 years old — should that kid have to work to age 70? I don’t know but that
could be a possibility to try to make this program work. Because look – Social Security started in 1935. … Fast
forward to now. Full retirement age is 67 and the life span is 80. So when they first conceived Social Security they didn’t
think they were going to be paying benefits for 13, 15 years. That’s one of the reasons why this pyramid scheme isn’t
Congressman Joe Heck has already voted to kill Medicare, so it should be no surprise that he and his party are also going
after Social Security which they have done in the past. Former President Bush even pushed for the privatization of Social
Security. Just imagine what would have happened if Social Security was privatized in 2005 prior to Bush’s destruction
of the US economy before he left office.
American citizens lost trillions of dollars in their 401k plans when the economy collapsed in 2008, and if Social Security
were privatized at that time, trillions more would have been lost. But yet Republicans are still pushing this idea, why, because
financial institutions would make trillions.
Nevada has a very large senior population and you can be sure that in the 2012 election those seniors who receive Social
Security and Medicare, will be voting their dissatisfaction with having Congressman Joe Heck as their Representative in Nevada’s
3rd Congressional District.
WASHINGTON – The creator of the beloved and critically acclaimed HBO series The Wire offered Eric Holder a counter-offer
in response to the U.S. Attorney General's casual plea for another season of the show: I'll do it if you end the war on drugs.
"I want to speak directly to [Co-creator Ed] Burns and Mr. Simon: Do another season of The Wire," Holder said at a recent
drug policy event in the nation's capital. "I want another season or I want a movie. I have a lot of power Mr. Burns and Mr.
In an email to Digital Spy, Wire creator David Simon responded: "The Attorney-General's kind remarks are noted and
appreciated. I've spoken to Ed Burns and we are prepared to go to work on season six of The Wire if the Department of Justice
is equally ready to reconsider and address its continuing prosecution of our misguided, destructive and dehumanising drug
Quipped Ray Gustini of The Atlantic Wire: "The exchange has at least clarified one thing: the chances of another season
of The Wire are now exactly the same as America having a rational dialogue about drug law reform." The HBO drama ran for five
seasons between 2002 and 2008.
Obama Spits Hot Fire: Rap On The Death Of Osama Bin Laden [Spoof]
Yesterday, House Republicans including Nevada Representative Dean Heller and Nevada Representative Joe Heck voted against
an amendment to H.R. 1230, a Republican bill that increases drilling in the United States, but fails to bring down gas prices.
All but one Republican voted against the Amendment.
The amendment which was offered by New Mexico Rep. Ben Ray Lujan, a Democrat, would have made it mandatory that the “Oil
Drilled in the United States, Stay’s in the United States” for US consumers and not shipped to other countries.
“All day today, my colleagues on the other side of the aisle have suggested that drilling more is the solution
to high gas prices. And if my Republican colleagues really believe that increasing drilling in the U.S. will lower gas prices
then we should all be able to agree that oil produced in America should stay in America to help American families and American
“And that’s why I am offering this final amendment today to ensure that oil resources that are produced
through leasing under this act are kept here and sold here in the United States. Simply put, this means if we produce it here
we should keep it here for the American people.”
The Republican mantra “Drill, Baby Drill” which was used during the 2008 Presidential campaign while US consumers
were seeing escalating prices of crude oil and gas prices at the pump, is nothing but misdirection, because the oil would
not be used in the United States, it would be sold onto the world market.
The Republicans have voted several times to keep US oil out of the cars of US consumers.
The right wing wants you to believe that if we drill for more oil on US lands and US seas, consumers in the United States
would see prices drop at the pump. Well, that is a fallacy, and the Republicans know that.
In 2005, former President George W. Bush and the Republican controlled congress were pushing for oil drilling in Alaska’s
Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR),
The Republicans want US oil corporations to be able to sell crude oil on the World market where they will see higher profits
on US crude, while also maintaining higher prices at the pumps in the United States, because Oil billionaire’s such
as the Koch brothers contribute millions to republican campaign’s.
Oil corporation such as Exxon, which makes more money than any other corporation on the planet, will also continue to receive
billions of US tax dollars in subsidies because Republicans also
New Mexico Rep. Ben Ray Lujan also said in his speech, “At a time when gas prices are at historic highs, if we’re
going to produce more from American drilling we should keep it in America to help Americans.”
But sadly, Republican’s don’t see it that way.
